We would like to extend a warm welcome to Abbots & Bega, the Junior Houses of St. Bees School. This will be our sixth year as Houseparents and we look forward to caring for your son/daughter during their time on the Junior House.
Abbots & Bega are small, friendly Houses (Abbots for the boys & Bega for the girls). The Junior Boarding Houses consist of four internally connected terraced houses at the end of Lonsdale Terrace with magnificent views of the School and valley. The girls' accommodation, Bega, is in numbers 10 and 11. We live in number 9 with our children, Joshua (15), Amy (13) and Hannah (almost 9). The boys’ accommodation, Abbots, is on the other side of our house in numbers 7 and 8. Although all four Houses are internally connected there is no internal access for the pupils between the two Houses.
At present on the Junior Boarding Houses we provide a home for approximately 25 full, weekly and flexi boarders, providing facilities for academic study and areas for relaxing and socialising. A further approximately 60 day boys can use Abbots House as their daily base & approximately 40 girl day pupils have Bega House as theirs. We believe the Houses provide a welcoming, friendly and homely environment, in which pupils new to the School quickly find their feet and in which all pupils can grow in confidence in a caring and supportive atmosphere. The family lines on which the Houses are run aim to engender an atmosphere of trust, tolerance and respect for others in secure, comfortable and attractive accommodation. The House structure encourages pupils to take responsibility for themselves and for their surroundings.
