Lonsdale Girls

From the Housemistress

Mrs. Malan and DaughterI would like to extend a very warm welcome to Lonsdale House, the Senior Girls' House of St. Bees School.

Lonsdale House is a row of 6 terraced houses with an uninterrupted view of the School and the land behind it. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal officially opened the House on 28th June 1983. The girls' accommodation is in numbers 1 to 5. I live in number 6 with my daughter.

St. Bees is a small friendly village with a Post Office plus general store, beach cafe and pubs. The railway station has a regular service with trains to Barrow-in-Furness in the southerly direction and Whitehaven and Carlisle on the northern route. The large safe beach is a 10 minute walk away with a coastal path taking in magnificent views from St. Bees Head. St. Bees is the start of the famous coast-to-coast footpath. The Aims of Lonsdale House

We provide a welcoming, friendly and homely environment, allowing each pupil to grow and develop both academically and socially in a caring and family atmosphere. The House structure encourages pupils to be responsible for themselves and to lead others.

Lonsdale Girls House

Pupils at St. Bees are prepared to meet the Lonsdale Girls Houseever-increasing demands of society through a balanced programme of academic, physical and cultural opportunities. Lonsdale firmly supports all members of the House to ensure that each girl reaches her true potential. Our extended family creates an atmosphere of trust, tolerance and respect for others in accommodation, which is comfortable, free from danger and includes areas for private thought.

At present we have approximately 35 full and weekly boarders, providing facilities for academic study and areas for relaxing and socialising. Approximately 40 day pupils have Lonsdale as their daily home base.
