Welcome to the Sports Department at St. Bees School. Involvement in sport is an integral part of the whole St. Bees experience. The school has a long and proud tradition of excellence in both team and individual games, with the maximum use possible being made of our extensive indoor and outdoor facilities.

As well as this extensive fixture programme we also offer a wide range of health related fitness activities including aerobics, weight training and circuit training.
Rugby for the boys and Hockey for the girls are two of the key sports offered to pupils and a busy schedule of inter-school matches is played throughout the season. We are always very pleased to see spectators at all St. Bees fixtures.
Sports Fixture List
The sports facilities include a large sports hall with a climbing wall, a gymnasium with two squash courts and a multigym, a swimming pool, tennis courts and Eton fives courts.

Every pupil participates in a minimum of three and a quarter hours of curriculum sport per week right the way through the school, and this can extend to six hours or more depending upon the level of involvement.
Physical Education is offered as an examination subject at both GCSE and A Level.
This has proved to be very popular with St. Bees pupils, and also with pupils seeking to join the school for the Sixth Form.
The school has an ambitious touring policy, with recent trips to play a variety of sports in Barbados, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Swaziland, Portugal, Ireland, France and Wales. Since 1999 we have established excellent links with a number of teams in South Africa and Swaziland, and plans are currently well underway for our next visit in 2011. This will be a boys rugby and girls hockey tour which, based on previous trips, will give the players involved an experience which they will never forget.
